Google was started by two Stanford students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. It all started with a research project having to do with the properties of the world wide web. They figured out a way to put your most reliable resource on the top of the list by creating an algorithm called “PageRank”. It basically determines how important the website is for you and if it doesn’t have anything to do with what you’re searching for then they’ll put it at the end of the list. Different variations have been made over the years making it faster and faster at what it does. Personalized searches started with text recognition, looking for words or phrases that have to do with what you’re looking for. Then came universal searches which doesn’t just look at text but looks at images as well.
